DISNEY EARTH DAY SPECIAL
Michael wrote and produced the Earth Day Special for Disney, starring Ed Begley, Jr. and Dana Delaney and featuring: Shaquille O’Neil, Emilio Estevez, Anne Archer, Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman, Kirstie Alley, John Travolta, Jay Thomas, Chevy Chase and Vice President Al Gore, who he filmed at the White House.
TRUE BLUE PRODUCTIONS
Michael headed True Blue Productions, Kirstie Alley’s production company, for two years while Kirstie starred in and produced the hit sitcom, Veronica’s Closet. Michael had the insightful experience of working with, learning from and observing some of the world’s top television writers, actors and producers.
ARK: 2000
Michael wrote a short video for the Australian environmental group, ARK and the Sydney Olympic Committee competing for the 2000 Olympics Games venue. Sydney had adopted an environmental theme in their bid to the International Olympic Committee. Michael wrote the video in which Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman appeared and supported the Sydney bid and the environmental inspiration it provided to the world. The video was included as part of the package provided to International Olympic Committee voting members. Sydney won the Games in a close competition over Beijing, China.
CAPTAIN PLANET
This innovative television children’s cartoon, action series was inspired in part by Ted Turner’s long-standing commitment to the environment. Produced by Turner Broadcasting the Captain Planet series brings the most unlikely, everyday kids to super-hero status in their quest to save the environment.
The initial six episodes feature the voice of Captain Planet performed by Tom Cruise. In this capacity, Michael assisted Tom Cruise in reviewing scripts’ environmental content and also Tom’s revolutionary idea, supported by Turner, for meeting with toy manufacturers and distributors to encourage them toward more environmentally-friendly toys and packaging.
